In the mid-season finale of "Reign" Season 1 Episode 8, "Fated," Mary galloped away with Bash, leaving Francis on his knees, heartbroken. It was to save Francis from the forecasted, fatal fate that Mary decided to leave France and not marry Francis.

Nostradamus had predicted the death of Francis if he married Mary. The death of Aylee forced Mary to believe that Nostradamus' prophecy has a ring of truth in it. As a result, Mary decided to be as far away as possible from Francis.

The episode 9 of "Reign" is called "For King and Country." The promo of the episode suggests that Francis is heart-broken but his love for Mary continues to be felt. He can be seen telling his mother, "I love her despite everything that she has done." As for Mary, she regards her move as a way to avoid Francis' death. In the promo video, one can hear her saying, "I must tell Francis about the prophecy."

In "Fated," Diane's Bash's mother Diane warns Bash to keep his distance from Mary as no one is worth dying for. She tells her son that he cannot want her, not in secret and not even in his heart. Diane feels that Mary wants him, too. The promo of "For King and Country" suggests the same, as one can see Mary kissing Bash.

The promo of episode 9 also shows Francis confronting Mary and he can be seen telling her that everything was a superstition. It looks like he has come to know about Nostradamus' prophecy and Nostradamus has been chained and imprisoned as a result of that.

King Henry will not be sitting quietly after Mary's revolt and his chance to get England under his rule of influence is slipping away. He is expected to make dangerous moves to benefit his kingdom, but it will affect whole of France.
