‘Reign’ Season 2 Spoilers: Francis Unlikely to Put his Faith in Mary as a Leader
The first season of "Reign" wrapped-up with the death of King Henry. When "Reign" returns for Season 2, Francis will be King Francis. He and the Queen of Scots, Mary, will be the new rulers of France. Adelaide Kane, who plays Mary, said that Francis and Mary have been preparing to become King and Queen all their whole life and they have to trust their instincts to become better rulers. As Mary is the Queen of Scotland for a long time now, she is the more experienced one but it looks unlikely that Francis will listen to Mary's suggestions and see her as a leader.
"I think they've [Mary and Francis] been preparing to step into power their whole lives. I don't think anyone's really ever prepared for that. It's like moving out for the first time, or going to college for the first time. You think you're ready but nobody's ever really ready," Kane said to Zap2it.
The actress thinks Mary and Francis are going to have to trust each other and trust their instincts and "just try and be the best rulers they can be." Kane pointed out that Mary already has some experience being the Queen of Scotland and because of that, she "already has a bit of a background."
The actress would be interested to see "Francis put his faith in her [Mary] as a leader in her own right. I'd like to see that dynamic." Kane, however, was doubtful that it would happen as "patriarchy ruled supreme" at the time.
Talking about the inclusion of historical events in Season 2, Megan Follows, who plays Queen Catherine, said to Zap2it, "we know certain historical elements and markers, but it's quite an amazing canvas. I think the writers are in there right now."
"We've introduced certain things into play, certain elements and huge social shifts that are coming up, so it'll be fun to see how the dangers of the outside world meet the dangers of the relationships within the castle," Follows said.
Meanwhile, Jonathan Keltz, who plays Leith in "Reign," has been promoted as series regular for Season 2. He had a recurring role in the first season. The promotion indicates that viewers may get to see more of Leith, Greer and Lord Castleroy's love triangle. It is expected that Castleroy's daughter will be making this love triangle even more interesting.
In Season 1 of "Reign," the character of Leith started as a kitchen boy. He and Greer fell in love but because of the difference between their statuses, they knew that their relationship cannot have a happy ending. When Leith was caught with Greer in her private chamber, he escaped the punishment by joining the army as a soldier. At a battlefield, Leith saved Francis's life and Francis gave him a title and some property. In Leith's absence, Greer got engaged to Lord Castleroy. Despite the title and the property on his name, Leith was unable to convince Greer to break-up with Lord Castleroy. Rejected by Greer, Leith took a step towards another woman, the daughter of Castleroy.
