‘Reign’ Season 3: Adelaide Kane, Torrance Coombs say goodbye to Toby Regbo after Francis' death

Days after the death of King Francis (Toby Regbo) in “Reign” Season 3 Episode 5, titled “In a Clearing,” Adelaide Kane took to Instagram to say goodbye to Regbo. The Australian actress plays Queen Mary Stuart in The CW period drama series.
“The King is dead… Long Live the King,” Kane captioned a photo of Regbo on Instagram. “ It was such a pleasure working with you for the last two years @tobyregbo Francis will be sorely missed. Much love from all of us and the best of luck for the future. ???? #thankyoutoby #Reign #itwasagreatfakemarriage.”
Torrance Coombs, who plays King Francis' half-brother Bash, also took to Instagram to say goodbye to Regbo. On Sunday, Nov. 15, the Canadian actor posted a photo of Regbo holding a jersey that features signatures and messages handwritten by the “Reign” cast and crew members.
“In true Canadian fashion: a jersey retirement ceremony. @tobyregbo @fredgerber #Reign,” Coombs captioned the photo.
The death of King Francis in “Reign” Season 3 episode 5 did not come as a surprise, as fans as well as Regbo knew about the character’s fate . In October, “Reign” show runner Laurie McCarthy told Entertainment Weekly that the pilot promises the death of Regbo’s character.
“The pilot promises his death, it foretells it and it promises that it’s going to be a tragic love story,” McCarthy said. “It felt incredibly naturally like it was time, before we got so far away from what the stakes that we put in the ground at the beginning.”
Before making his “Reign” debut as King Francis in 2013, Regbo played Chad Turner in “M.I.High” in 2007, and Harry in 2012 mini-series “The Town." In 2010, he played the young Albus Dumbledore in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1” but he was not credited, and in 2013, he starred in “U Want Me 2 Kill Him?” opposite Jamie Blackley and Joanne Froggatt.
