Residents Near Footscray Railway Will Wait
The Victorian Government remains silent on the route of the multi-billion dollar Regional Rail Link project. Affected residents near the Footscray Railway Station, therefore, could not decide yet on whether they want their land and other properties sold to the government.
Residents have until the end of the day to determine if they want to be bought-out. Public Transport minister Martin Pakula said "People should make submissions on whether they want to be in the zone, or whether they to be acquired or not, but ultimately the decision will be made, in terms of the advanced project scope, by the Minister for Planning."
The government deadline closes in but a few residents wanted to know first where the railway line will go and how high off the ground before making a decision. Most residents believe details such as these were being hidden from them so a purchasing price could be easily established.
Nick Fahey, a resident on Buckley Street said his neighbors have developed a tolerance for railway activity already. He said most are willing to wait for project plans to be laid out. Fahey, like most residents, insist that Government should finalize the route before starting to purchase their houses.
