Newly resigned GOP staffer Elizabeth Lauten's woes has just started. Aside from the challenge of finding a new job after she quit her post as communications director of Republican Rep Steven Fincher over her critical posts of the Obama daughters in Facebook, her past as a teenager is catching up on her.

On Monday, after she resigned, a Twitter member exposed that Lauten had her share of bad teen behaviour, including a shoplifting incident when she was 17.

That same day, MailOnLine reported that besides the misdemeanor larceny charge for which Lauten qualified for the deferred prosecution programme, she was also arrested for speeding and running a red light in Virginia when she was 19.

At the rate her skeletons are coming out, expect Lauten's other teen misadventures to surface soon over social media, which proved to be her Achilles heel. Trending Report tweeted a photo of a woman who looks like Lauten during her younger days with a beer bottle in her mouth while dancing with the caption: "Wait, I know this is not #ElizabethLauten (@DCGopGirl) in tis photo? Didn't she tell kids to show some 'class?'?" YouTube/TheBreakfastClub

Meanwhile, #ElizabethLauten continues to trend on Twitter after she announced her resignation and her "wild days" as a teenager surfaced.

BWD commented, "#ElizabethLauten was also a shoplifting thug as a teenager, but she lived to insult the first black president's daughters," in an apparent reference to black teen Michael Brown who was shot for allegedly shoplifting.

Also on Monday, the White House broke its silence on the controversy. White House spokesman Josh Earnest said he was surprised that Lauten used the Thanksgiving-themed event to hit the Obamas. He added that common sense dictates that first daughters "should be off-limits to criticisms."

Ben White agreed with Earnest, tweeting, "I have no idea who Elizabeth Lauten is. But I do know attacking teenage first daughters is 100% hot and shameful garbage."

The controversy also resulted in public scrutiny over past first daughters.

Mrs Betty Bower, for instance, tweeted a photo of Jenna Bush in an apparent state of drunkenness, with the reminder "The internet NEVER forgets."

It includes first daughters of city mayors such as the daughter of New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani who shares something in common with Lauten - that is being arrested shoplifting.

However, another former White House occupant, Patti Davis, the daughter of ex-President Ronald Reagan, wrote the Obama girls on Sunday to brace themselves for criticisms which other first daughters had gone through.

Davis recalled being criticised for a dress she wore at an event where Queen Elizabeth was present. "There were 150 people there. 149 of them were properly dressed," Sunherald quoted Davis's letter to Malia and Sasha.

She reminded the two, "As First Daughters, you can't win ... There will always be bitchy people sitting at their keyboards, seething with anger at their own lives, ready to take it out on you."

But not this time, because Malia and Sasha beat Lauten to her game without sending a single tweet. It was social media, which was not around when Davis was in the White House, which took the cudgels for the Obama girls - aided no doubt by Lauten's "classless" way she conducted herself as a teenager.
