'Rick and Morty' season 3 release date: 'Rickmancing the Stone' a pun on 'Romancing the Stone'
The second episode of "Rick and Morty" season 3 titled "Rickmancing the Stone" will air on July 30th at 11:30 p.m. EST, Adult Swim announced during a live streaming event last month. The season premiere titled "The Rickshank Rickdemption" surprisingly aired on April Fools' Day and received rave reviews.
Den of Geek speculates "if this premiere date means we’ll be re-watching the season premiere we already saw or if we’ll get maybe two new episodes that day?" before confirming that the third season will consist of 10 episodes, contrary to earlier reports of a 14-episode season. In fact, co-creator Dan Harmon said during a Magic City Comic Con panel that the third season of the animated series wil comprise 14 episodes.
Needless to say, "Rickmancing the Stone" is a pun on the 1984 action-adventure romantic comedy "Romancing the Stone." The first episode of season 3 was a pun on "Shawshank Redemption."
"The Rickshank Rickdemption" saw progression from second season storylines. Following Planet Earth's invasion of the Galactic Federation, siblings Summer and Morty summoned the Council of Ricks in pursuit of Rick Sanchez, their imprisoned grandfather. In trademark Rick fashion, Rick C-137 transported his mind into one of his doppelgangers to crash the meeting the council. Rick would then kill the rest of the Ricks before returning home with his grandchildren.
The season premiere also teased a rivalry between Morty and Rick, the two primary characters, after Morty and his sister set out to rescue their grandfather. When Morty and his sister set out to rescue Rick, it was evident that Summer was more enthused about the task. “Who's stupid now, bi*ch?" reacted an annoyed Morty after he shot Rick in the head with a fake gun. After realising it was a fake gun, Morty mumbled, "Uh, good thing I saw that note.”
Rick and Morty season 3 release date confirmed
To promote the third season of the animated series, a giant Rick is going to reportedly drive across the United States this summer in his "RickMobile." Rick and Morty season 3 episode 2 titled "Rickmancing the Stone" will air on July 30 at 11:30 p.m. EST.
