Rick Springfield Cancels Australia Tour
Rick Springfield cancelled his much awaited tour in Australia, which was scheduled to begin on October 7, 2014. Although Springfield has his roots in Australia, it has been more than 30 years since he had given any stage performance. The tour would have been his first major performance in the nation since 1971.
A recent film commitment caused the cancellation of the highly anticipated tour much to the disappointment of his fans in the country. However, the cancelled show is rumoured to be rescheduled for September 2015 following the release of his big project.
His new film project, titled 'Ricki and Flash', is starting in September. The movie is written by Diablo Cody, who also wrote the script for the film 'Juno'. It is produced by Tri Star Production Films and is slated for June 2015 release.
Playing alongside Springfield is Meryl Streep, who will portray an ageing rock star trying to connect with her estranged kids. Springfield will play the role of a band member who has a crush on the character played by Streep. Reports claim that he will be showing off some serious guitar skills in the movie. He is also rumoured to be contributing to the soundtracks of the film.
"Sorry to all my Aussie fans," Springfield said in a statement. "I was so looking forward to playing for you for the first time in 30 years. I promise to make it up to you next year. In the meantime, this movie is a great opportunity. It's not every day that Meryl Streep and Jonathan Demme come calling."
Springfield started his solo career in 1972 after relocating to the U.S. He received a Grammy Award for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance for the song 'Jessie's Girl'.
The tour has been highly anticipated by Springfield's fans, as demonstrated by the fact that all the venues were almost fully reserved in advance. People who had already bought the tickets for the show can get the refund of the same at the point of sale.
The 64-year-old Australian musician and actor is an ex-member of the pop rock group called Zoot. Springfield stayed with group until 1971. He married his long-time girlfriend in 1984, and the couple has now two children.
