It was one of the most explosive breakups of 2009, but Rihanna and Chris Brown may be ready to put the past behind them and rekindle their romance.

MediaTakeOut.com reports that a reconciliation may not be too far off between the two superstars. An insider tells the site Rihanna and Brown have been in contact for a while through phone calls and text messages.

The two are reportedly planning to set up a date when Rihanna gets back to Los Angeles from spending holidays in Barbados with her family.

Brown's camp tells Gossip Cop this news is "not true", but this isn't the only indication the two could be contemplating another try at romance.

The two began following each other on Twitter earlier this year, and Rihanna has told Esquire she is still a fan of her former beau's music.

While Brown and Rihanna has not indulged in direct communication with each other publicly, a series of tweets between the two stars hinted at a possible reunion.

"Love u [sic] more than u know!" Brown tweeted on Thursday.

Very shortly after, Rihanna wrote on her Twitter, "I'll always love you."

In early December, Brown's mother sent rumors swirling when she tweeted her own cryptic message:

"HELLO LADY I MISS YOU AND LOVE YOU!!!!! YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!!!!"

"Miss+Love u 2," Rihanna tweeted a while later.

If proven true, this budding relationship will undoubtedly cause a media flurry after the pair's very public falling out nearly two years ago.

Numerous reports painted their relationship - or at least the end of it - as a fiery and violent one, that led to Brown assaulting the "Umbrella" diva.

"It's humiliating to say this happened. To accept that? It's a traumatizing experience," Rihanna told Good Morning America's Diane Sawyer a few months after the incident.

She admitted that it was a mistake to stay in the relationship despite its destructive nature.

"I stayed. I even went back after he beat me, which was wrong. But again, I'm a human being and people put me on a very unrealistic pedestal. And all these expectations, I'm not perfect," she explained.
