Rihanna Triggers Scuffle Between AFL Players; Gold Coast Suns Brawl Caught on Cam
Footage of a brutal brawl between two Gold Coast Suns AFL players has already circulated in the Internet, triggering debates among fellow Australian football league players and fans.
The Video featured a toe-to-toe confrontation between 21-year old Steven May and Campbell Brown in Los Angeles in the United States. It also shows a third Gold Coast Suns player trying to resolve the conflict between his teammates.
According to Nine MSN, May suffered a fractured bone in his jaw (expected to undergo surgery) after absorbing heavy blow from Brown. It is still uncertain what triggered the fracas, though the club ruled out reports that the fight was a result of an argument over a split bill.
Based on the latest facts gathered, the presence of American pop star Rihanna reportedly ignited the conflict between May and Brown. Several Suns players were having fun at a Los Angeles night club when they were told to leave because Rihanna and his entourage were going to hold a post-concert party in the club.
All Suns players decided to leave the club, except May, who allegedly tried to go back into the club in an attempt to have an autograph of the Barbados-born singer. Hawthorn player Josh Gibson tried to restrain May, but his action irritated the Suns player.
May verbally abused Gibson, prompting Brown to punch him on the jaw. Brown's big blow ignited a brawl between the two Aussie rules football player, which has been sensationalized by the emergence of the video.
"The incident left May with a suspected fractured jaw which is expected to require surgery. No other players were involved," the Suns said in a statement.
"The club is in the process of establishing exactly what happened and all other relevant facts, and is discussing the matter with the two players concerned who have since returned to the Gold Coast ahead of their teammates."
Several fans immediately voiced out their reaction to the punching incident, majority of them are dismay to see Aussie players fighting for a petty reason.
"I've studied the footage of the fight between Campbell Brown and Steven May and there is definitely a second puncher in the bushes," Titus O'Reilly stated on Twitter.
