The latest single of Barbadian pop and R&B singer Rihanna, must have had a shaky start when first released in November last year, but “SM” has been hitting the Australian charts, according to the records by the Australian Record Industry Association (ARIA).

The song has jumped up to number 1 in ARIA singles chart this week, followed by fellow American singer, Wynter Gordon for her singles, Dirty Talk.

Rihanna’s latest single has stirred up controversy early this year because of its controversial and scandalous lyrics and racy video. It was even censored in many countries and the film clip was outright banned in few others.

SkyNews.com noted however, that these issues were ignored by Aussie listeners, who have continued to support the R&B’s latest hit.

Directed by Melina Matsoukas, the single is part of her album “Loud” and was resented by many countries for its lyrics and the loud outfits that Rihanna wore in the video.

One line that has made the song more controversial is that one that says: “Sticks and stones may break my bones but chains and whips excites me”.

This and other lines are believed to be Rihanna’s message to everyone who has failed to understand her as a person and performer.
