Research in Motion (RIM), the manufacturer of Blackberry recently announced a delay for highly-anticipated Blackberry model, Blackberry 10. This delay is just one of the problems that the company is facing as of the moment.

Blackberry 10 is supposed to be the major upgrade that RIM is supposed to offer by the end of the year. This schedule has now been moved to the first quarter of 2013. The reason cited for the delay are the issues that the company is facing when it comes to completing the software. Earlier updates from RIM revealed that Blackberry 10 will utilize the new operating system from Blackberry combined with the "signature elements" of Blackberry smartphones. Blackberry 10 is supposed to be the company's "game-changer" to help the company gain its place in the smartphone market.

Due to the tough competition from Apple and Google, Blackberry has experienced a rather bleak moment in the company's history. The stock price for Research in Motion has dropped by 19% last week and the company also revealed a US$518 million loss in the quarter ending in May. During this period, the shipment for Blackberry smartphones have also declined by almost half which is around 7.8 million units.

There are reports stating that RIM is considering to partner up with Microsoft in terms of utilizing the Windows Phone OS for their next line of smartphones. RIM has not denied nor confirmed these reports. Instead, the company has released a statement via email stating the following:
"Our main priority at hand is the successful launch of BlackBerry 10. We will continue to evaluate partnerships and licensing potential but are focused on BlackBerry 10."

Experts and analysts are saying that this delay would not mean good news for the company. Carolina Milanesi, an analyst from Gartner, expressed a similar statement mentioning that "They (RIM) need something in the market as quickly as they can, to get people back on the enterprise side and not to leave the door open to Windows."
