On Sept. 17, 2014, a death hoax claiming that the American singer has passed away went viral on social media network, especially on Twitter and Facebook. The rumours that spread like wildfire triggered panic among fans. Several fans took to Twitter to even express their grief after believing the fake news. Death Hoax: 'RIP Jason Mraz'

On Sept 18, 2014, The Epoch Times reported that hashtag #RIP Jason Mraz was trending on Twitter. The report notes that the hashtag went viral from "Wednesday night to early Thursday morning."

Furthermore, Media Mass informs that the viral death hoax originated from a viral Facebook page. The page reportedly was titled "RIP Jason Mraz" and made many of his fans believe in the fake news. The Facebook page was backed by credible account of singer's death. The post alleges that the 37-year-old jazz musician passed away on Sept. 17 in Mechanicsville.

The report notes that the Facebook page not only attracted "nearly one million of likes" but also invited social media users to post their condolences.

The viral death hoax read:

"At about 11 a.m. ET on Wednesday (September 17, 2014), our beloved singer Jason Mraz passed away. Jason Mraz was born on June 23, 1977 in Mechanicsville. He will be missed but not forgotten. Please show your sympathy and condolences by commenting on and liking this page."

Jason Mraz Death Hoax Debunked

However, the website ensures that the singer is "doing well and is alive" and the news is nothing but a death hoax going viral.

Meanwhile, DNA Info reports that Jason Mraz assisted the residents of South Williamsburg in some environmental activities. The Grammy Award-winning singer helped in commencing the "transformation" of a dirty lot into a community park. Speaking to the reporters, the singer revealed if he wasn't into music, he would be a landscaper. This event took place on the very day when the death hoax went viral.

Jason Mraz is also active on Twitter and on Sept. 19, 2014 he posted a tweet informing his more than 5.53 million followers about his Five Boroughs Tour.

Jason Mraz is not the first singer to become the victim of celebrity death hoax in recent past. Besides him, Justin Timberlake and Shakira have also been killed by the Internet.
