River Phoenix's Unseen Film to be Released
Tragic Actor's Final Scenes to be Recut
When River Phoenix died of a heart-attack at the tender age of 23, he was in the midst of filming "Dark Blood". The film remained unfinished as a result of his death, but the production's director, George Sluizer, has announced that he intends to finish the project by recutting scenes and roping in River's brother Joaquin to provide missing voice work.
In the film, Phoenix played a young widower who lived in the desert on a nuclear testing site. He encounters a well-off couple, played by Judy Davis and Jonathan Price, traveling across the desert on a second honeymoon and kidnaps them.
River Phoenix was a prodigious actor, appearing in many television shows and films from a young age. He is best remembered for his standout roles in "Stand By Me" and "My Own Private Idaho" and he received an Oscar nomination for his role in "Running on Empty". He died in 1993 of a heart attack on Halloween outside Johnny Depp's "Viper Room" club in Los Angeles. The attack was thought to be the result of the actor taking a fatal cocktail of drugs.
