'Riverdale' season 1 episode 5 spoilers: Riverdale prepares for Jason Blossom’s funeral; more secrets surface in ‘Heart of Darkness’

Previously on “Riverdale,” more about Miss Grundy’s (Sarah Habel) background was revealed. Veronica (Camila Mendes) also discovered some secrets about her own family. She started an unusual friendship with Cheryl, who is actually struggling with Jason’s upcoming funeral despite trying to show a brave face to the rest of town. Hermione (Marisol Nichols) asked for help from Fred (Luke Perry) after she received a cryptic message from the Southside Serpents.
In “Riverdale” Season 1 Episode 5, the town prepares for Jason Blossom’s funeral. The Blossom family will make some final arrangements, plus a secret agenda.
According to Comic Book, Archie (K.J. Apa) will stop trying to refocus his energy on football after he sees an opportunity to work with a new music mentor. Betty (Lili Reinhart) will continue to get more details surrounding Jason’s death. During her investigation, Betty will also find some dark truths about her own family.
In the promo video on the upcoming “Riverdale” episode [watch below], Cheryl can be heard initiating the memorial at her brother’s funeral. The next scene showed her screaming in terror, although it was uncertain what could have frightened her. The caption stated that some secrets refuse to die, hinting that there will be more to unravel about some “Riverdale” characters or family backgrounds.
Scenes from Jason’s funeral were previewed in the “Riverdale” teaser. Betty was talking to someone and wanted to know what was going on. Hermione at Pop Tate’s approached a mysterious box that seemed to have been left on the floor and was shocked to see what it contained. Finally, Jughead (Cole Sprouse) was also shown walking into a room and telling someone that Betty is about to enter the belly of the beast. Madchen Amick was also highlighted as Betty’s mother, Alice Cooper, hinting that there may be more secrets about Betty to be unveiled.
In the previous episodes of “Riverdale,” Betty was shown to be suffering from depression and anxiety, although she is not schizophrenic. She pressures herself all the time, while her mom tries to make her as perfect as possible. This only covers how broken she is inside.
“Riverdale” Season 1 Episode 5, titled “Heart of Darkness,” is directed by Jesse Warn and written by Ross Maxwell. The“Riverdale” episode will air on Feb. 23 on The CW in the US and on SyFy in Australia. It also airs on Neftlix US and Netflix Australia.
