‘Rizzoli & Isles’ Season 8 is not happening as Sasha Alexander wins award
Those who are expecting “Rizzoli & Isles” Season 8 will be disappointed by the recent report that the TNT drama will end after its upcoming seventh Season. The final Season will have 13 episodes.
On Jan. 7, Thursday, Turner Entertainment chief creative officer Kevin Reilly attended the Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena, California, where he confirmed the cancellation of “Rizzoli & Isles.” He said it felt like it was time to end the drama series based on Tess Gerritsen’s novels and everyone felt good about that.
For Reilly, “Rizzoli & Isles” stars Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander had a very satisfying experience. Harmon plays police detective Jane Rizzoli in the TV series while Alexander plays medical examiner Dr. Maura Isles.
In an interview with Variety, Alexander pointed out that “Rizzoli & Isles” hit “a cord with audiences the moment it aired, which is unusual and special, and it has remained so for almost seven Seasons.” She added that it was “a huge success” and they owe it to “the passionate commitment” of their amazing fans .
Prior to the announcement that “Rizzoli & Isles” will end after its seventhSseason, Alexander won the Favorite Cable TV Actress award at the People’s Choice Awards 2016, which aired live on CBS on Jan. 6, Wednesday. While she was posing for backstage photographers during the event, “Life of the Party” and “Stitches” singer Shawn Mendes was spotted cleaning his Favorite Breakout Artist trophy with his shirt, according to Glamour.
Aside from her role as Dr. Maura Isles in “Rizzoli & Isles” Season 7, Alexander is also reprising her role as Helene Runyon in “Shameless” Season 6, which will premiere on Jan. 10, Sunday. She has yet to star in another film after the 2013 romantic drama movie “The Girl from Nagasaki.”
There are still no details about Harmon’s next projects after “Rizzoli & Isles” Season 7. The last film she starred in was the 2008 TV movie “Living Proof.”
