Robin Thicke has a way of finding himself in the news after an awards show. The trend started with his infamous performance with the twerking Miley Cyrus at the MTV Video Music Awards. This year, he finds himself in the news again after he pleaded onstage to get his estranged wife back.

Thicke took to the stage twice during the 2014 Billboard Music Awards at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas to profess his love for Paula Patton.

The 37-year old hit maker accepted the award for best R&B Single for his worldwide hit "Blurred Lines," and used the opportunity on the microphone to make reach out to his wife.

"Most importantly, I'd like to thank my wife for her love and support, and for putting up with me for all these years," he emphatically said at the end of his speech.

Robin and Paula were high school sweethearts and have a 3-year old son together. They have been married for eight years and announced their separation in February this year in a joint statement but sources say that the decision to end the marriage was Paula's.

It can be remembered that Paula was thrust into the public spotlight after the twerking incident with Miley Cyrus and Paula stood by her man and said that she knew what to expect and she's seen Robin's videos and was unaffected.

Thicke took another opportunity to return to the stage that night and drive his point in even deeper as he debuted his latest single "Get Her Back" which he had written for Paula.

"Alright, y'all, help me get her back," Thicke said as he addressed the crowd before launching int his heartfelt song which was a stark contrast to his usual upbeat and flashy performances.

Back in February, just shortly after announcing the split, Thicke pulled a similar stunt onstage when he performed at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Va.

"For y'all that don't know, me and my wife separated but I'm trying to get my girl back," Thicke opened before singing hit breakout single "Lost Without U."

It has been over three months since the couple announced their split and it remains to be seen if this latest stunt will work. The two have been spotted together being friendly since the split but that's to be expected on account of their son.
