'Rock Band' Games Add Two More Songs
In another unexpected move, Harmonix has announced through its blog that more new "Rock Band" DLC will be coming in the form of two songs, which will be playable on "Rock Band 3" and "Rock Band Blitz." The songs chosen for the DLC are "Rise of the Fenix" by comedy rock band Tenacious D and "Back to the Shack" by Weezer. Harmonix had also released a DLC last month, which was the first time a "Rock Band" game had gotten new songs in almost two years.
"Rise of the Fenix" is from Tenacious D's 2012 album, while "Back to the Shack" is from Weezer's album that was released last year. Both songs are available for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 for $1.99 each. They should be out now in the Rock Band store, along with thousands of other songs already available.
A report from Polygon notes there is one thing interesting about the new "Rock Band" DLC and that is songs' theme. "Rise of the Fenix" by Tenacious D is about revival—hence, the title of the song is a misspelled version of rise of the phoenix—and "Back to the Shack" by Weezer is "about nostalgia and returning to one's roots."
The themes discussed in the songs earlier could be teasing the possibility of a new "Rock Band" game coming, speculates Polygon. After all, Harmonix did recently have fans answer a survey on what they would want to see in a brand new "Rock Band" game. The company even asked fans if they wanted a next-gen version of the game or even another game for the PS3 and Xbox 360.
Last month, when Harmonix released songs from Arctic Monkeys, Avenged Sevenfold and Foo Fighters, fans were a bit delighted but confused. Many felt it was a last hurrah for the series, and with the release of new content this month, the mystery of Harmonix's plan grows. As of right now, it is unclear if a next-gen sequel or a reboot is on the way from Harmonix or if the company plans on supporting the older games through continued DLC support. For now, it's all up in the air.
