Rocket Attack on Israel, Lebanon Blamed
Four rockets have allegedly been fired from the southern part of Lebanon to southern Israel on Thursday. This has been the first time such incidents have occurred in the last two years, Israeli military informed. Sirens set off due to the rockets in the western parts of Galilee. Additionally, it was also responsible for raising anxiety in the area as people are more sensitive due to the political tension in Syria.
Two of the rockets fell amid Israeli buildings. Even though there have not been any injury reported, properties have been damaged. The defence system of the country was able to intercept one of those, while the other fell in a vacant area in the open.
Captain Eytan Buchman informed the New York Times that it was suspected that the rockets had been launched from Qlayleh, a village near Tyre situated in the southern parts of Lebanon. Mr Buchman added that the global jihadists were responsible for the rocket attack. By the term "global jihadists", he meant radical Islamist militants.
The attack, according to Mr Buchman, is an unprovoked one as far as Israel was concerned. On the other hand, he informed that the military had been prepared any way for potential attacks. The northern Israel airspace has temporarily been closed as a precautionary measure.
Benjamin Netanyahu, the prime minister of the country, issued a public statement earlier on TV. The statement says that Israel has been acting responsibly for the sake of prevention and defence. Israel's policies have been crystal clear on the issue. Mr Netanyahu claims that Israel is in a position to upset anyone who tries to harm the nation.
On the contrary, the Lebanese Army issued another statement which claimed that the Katyusha rockets had been fired by some "unknown group." It was told that the rockets were fired from the southern parts of Tyre. Four wooden rocket launching pads were found when one army unit went for a probe. It was also informed that the army was in the process of finding the offenders.
