Former tennis pro Tim Henman believes that Roger Federer has found his groove back recently and his current form will be enough to take the Swiss Master to the 2014 US Open title.

In a recent interview, Federer was picked by Henman to win the Grand Slam tournament in Flushing Meadows, New York, where the final tennis major of the year will be held.

"Everyone's favourite is (Novak) Djokovic, but don't write off Federer at any point. Djoko may be a hard-court specialist but the momentum is strong with Federer having won at Cincinnati. My money is on him," Henman said via dnaindia.com.

Henman said Federer’s recent successful run and his momentum will be carried over to his US Open campaign and finally break his streak of failures in Grand Slam tournaments. Federer was a runner-up at the Rogers Cup to France’s Jo-Wilfried Tsonga losing in the hard-fought final, 5-7, 6-7 (3) and then delivered the title at the Cincinnati Masters with a victory over Spain’s David Ferrer in three sets, 6-3, 1-6, 6-2.

Federer will be aiming to add one more to his 17-Grand Slam title collection, the record for most majors championships in tennis history, in the New York tournament where he has a win-loss record of 67-9 in his career.

If Federer wins another US Open title, he’ll get his sixth at the Big Apple after dominating in consecutive years from 2004 to 2008 when he won the championship.

Also in the interview, Henman said that it was unfortunate to see Nadal to miss the tourney because of a right wrist injury and added that compatriot Andy Murray will disappoint once again due to lack of playing matches in the lead-up to the big tournament.

Unlike Federer, Henman has never tasted the ultimate success in winning Grand Slams during his playing years. He came close five times reaching the semifinals at the French Open (2004) and the Wimbledon Championships (1998, 1999, 2001 and 2002) but never played in a Grand Slam final.

Federer alongside world no. 1 Novak Djokovic of Serbia are top-billed as the favourites at the 2014 US Open. Will Henman be proven right that Federer will get the championship in New York? Or will Federer come up short yet again?
