Roger Federer Clinches 6th Title in Cincinnati Masters and 80th ATP Tournament Title

Roger Federer has clinched his sixth title in the 2014 Western & Southern Open or the Cincinnati Masters after defeating Spain's David Ferrer in the finals, 6-3, 1-6, 6-2. Federer fell in the second set but held his nerve to beat Ferrer in the three-set thriller at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio.

Federer's recent victory is also his 80^th tournament title on the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Tour and his 22^nd title in the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 events. He has also extended his winning streak against Ferrer to 16 matches. The Swiss athlete who currently ranks third in the ATP World rankings took his delight of the recent achievement to Twitter.

Federer's victory in Cincinnati was a hard fought one. After a quick first set which only lasted for 12 minutes, Federer struggled and lost the following set. Federer regained form in the third set to seal the victory against the Spaniard.

"I'm very happy about the week," Federer said via the tournament's official website. "Just overall, it went from good to great," Federer added.

"Just really pleased that I was able to back up a tough week last week."

Federer has remained undefeated in six finals of the Western & Southern Open. He is now tied up with his coach Stefan Edberg with a total of six appearances in Men's Singles finals of the said tournament. However, unlike Edberg who had only won twice out of his six finals' participations, Federer has won in all his appearances in the championship round. Federer won his first Cincinnati Masters' title in 2005, and in 2007, 2009, 2010, and 2012.

"I know I didn't beat Rafa and Novak here but you can only beat who you play," Federer told The Guardian. "Clearly I can't wait for the US Open but I need some rest too."

The 2014 US Open will start on Aug. 25.
