Roger Federer happy with knee rehab, ready for tennis action
Roger Federer admitted he is happy with his knee rehab that forced the Swiss Maestro to miss a chunk of tournaments at the start of the season.
After more than two months of being sidelined form competitive matches, Federer seems to be ready to once again hit the tennis court this season. The 34-year-old Swiss revealed he is happy about how his post-knee surgery recuperation went in a short amount of time.
"Couldn't be more happy how rehab has gone. It's baby steps," Federer said in Miami, reports Tennis Now. "Still at the same time you go from crutches to walking to running to jumping to sprinting. It's pretty incredible to see the progress I've been able to make in a short period of time.”
Federer underwent surgery to repair a torn left meniscus suffered a day after his Australian Open semifinal loss against career rival Novak Djokovic. His was set for a surprise return at the recently-concluded Miami Open, but a stomach virus forced Federer to move his comeback at the Monte Carlo Masters next week.
Federer has started his preparations for the tournament in Monaco, which happens on Apr. 10-17. It will be Federer’s first competitive match since the unfortunate setback and it would be intriguing to see how Federer would fare following his rest from the competition.
Federer said expectations for him in the upcoming event is low, but the 17-time Grand Slam winner was adamant about his competitive nature heading into the start of the clay-season.
"Expectations are really low, which is nice for a change. Just see where I am, go out there," Federer said. "Once you're out there, you want to win, it's clear. I'm a competitor. I'm just really pleased I'm back. I didn't expect myself to be back here so soon after surgery."
