Roger Federer, Lebron James, Derek Jeter Among Time’s ‘Most Obsessed-Over People’ on the Internet
Time Magazine call it the "ultimate online power list."
Chris Wilson of Time Magazine has compiled a list of "100 Most Obsessed-Over People" on the Internet. The data were gathered from all around the Internet as well as from the celebrities' Wikipedia pages. Other factors such as number of words, number of links to other Wikipedia pages, number of external links, number of categories the person is in, total number of revisions to the page, number of unique individuals who had edited the page by signed-in editors, number of anonymous edits, and number of vandalisms were taken into account. The "100 Most Obsessed-Over People" list also materialized as an analogy or comparison to the magazine's list of "100 Most Influential People in the World."
The "100 Most Obsessed-Over People" list is consists of global leaders, entertainers (musical artists, actors, and actresses), and sports personalities. Notably, Roger Federer is the highest-ranked athlete on the list. The Swiss tennis star is ranked at the 18th spot, ahead of Paul McCartney and former U.S. president Jimmy Carter. In 2013, Forbes ranked Federer as the most powerful athlete. Federer was reportedly more powerful than Tiger Woods or Lebron James, Forbes further wrote. "Federer is also popular in the press with the most print mentions of any athlete over the last 12 months." Could it be one of the reasons why Federer's name is the first to appear on the Time's list of "100 most obsessed-over people" on the Internet?
A total of 34 personalities (either retired or active) from the sports industry were included in the list. Cristiano Ronaldo, David Beckham, Lionel Messi, and Thiery Henry are in the 21st, 22nd, 42nd, and 74th places, respectively. Rafael Nadal, Serena Williams, Novak Djokovic, Maria Sharapova, and Andy Murray occupied in 31st, 43rd, 61st, 72nd, and 89th places, correspondingly.
National Basketball Association star players Kobe Bryant and Lebron James also made the list, sitting at number 44 and number 52, in that order.
New York Yankees' Derek Jeter is the only baseball athlete on the list, at number 92.
The list is topped by former U.S. president George Bush followed by incumbent president Barack Obama, ahead of singers Madonna, Beyonce, and Janet Jackson.
