Roger Fereder has just lost to Juan Martin Del Potro in the finals of the Swiss Indoors, 7-6 (7-3), 2-6 and 6-4.

He saved a couple of break points to bring the set to a tie-break but hastily found himself down to 3-0, and Del Potro just continued on to take the set. He won the second set in just more than 30 minutes. However, the Argentine athlete, who also ranks fifth in the world, effortlessly claimed victory against the17-time Grand Slam champion.

"I fought hard all the way and I brought up my level but so din Juan," said Federer.

"I am a champion and I don't take much self-assurance from trailing matches," he added. "I am pleased with the level of my game, and I know it is getting better, but it is not in trailing or losing where I obtain much self-assurance," said Federer.

The Swiss Indoors was held in Federer's hometown Basel, Switzerland. His loss to Del Potro has definitely left his fans feeling devastated. Roger currently holds the record for the most singles titles. He has won the tournament five consecutive times, in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2011. World No 2 Novak Djokovic has broken his record of consecutive wins in 2008. In 2012 and this year, 2013, the Argentinean superstar athlete claimed the title.

"It is always a pleasure to play Roger," said Del Potro. "Roger is the hero here and he is my biggest inspiration," Del Potro added.

World No 6 Roger Federer would have secured his place in the World Tour Finals of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) to be held in London in November at the O2 Arena if he had won against Del Potro. Now, Federer has to triumph in the second-round finals match against Youhzny or Kevin Anderson to seal his place for the ATP World Tour Finals.
