Roger Federer is hoping to carry his confidence from Basel into the BNB Paris Masters at AccorHotels Arena, where he builds momentum ahead of the ATP World Tour Finals in London.

Federer, who is coming off a fresh victory against career rival Rafael Nadal in the Swiss Indoors, said he will take the confidence he earned in his hometown into the Paris Masters to finish the year on a high note as he enters the last two events of the season.

“It's been a fun year so far,” Federer said, reports the official website of the ATP World Tour. “I will take it in my stride after Basel and I hope confidence is going to carry me far into the tournament here this week.”

Federer has reached two Grand Slam finals and grabbed six titles this year. The 34-year-old Swiss is one of the few players to take down World No. 1 Novak Djokovic this season, as he beat the Serb at Dubai and Cincinnati. However, the 17-time Grand Slam winner bowed down to “Djoker” at the Wimbledon and U.S. Open. It was followed by the Swiss' stunning loss to Spaniard Albert Ramos-Vinolas in the second round of the Shanghai Masters last month.

Federer admitted that his early exit at Shanghai gave him the needed time to rest and recuperate ahead of the final stretches of the season. He added that the last two events would not be a problem for him with his body and mind in the “right place.”

Federer opens his Paris Masters campaign in the second round against Andreas Seppi, who defeated Pablo Cuevas 7-5 6-3. The Swiss international leads their FedEx ATP Head2Head 12-1 and has already beaten the Italian two times this year.

Meanwhile, Nadal strongly opened his Paris Masters bid, defeating Lukas Rosol 6-2 6-2 to set up a match with either Kevin Anderson or Dominic Thiem. World No. 2 Andy Murray also advanced into the round of 16 after dispatching Borna Coric 6-4 6-4. Murray will next play David Goffin, who beat Dusan Lajovic 6-2 6-2.

"Goffin's very solid, for the last 18 months he's been extremely consistent," Murray said, reports CTV News. "He's got good hands and he's quick around the court."
