The grass court of the All England is the place where Roger Federer had won seven of his 17 grand slam titles. He was already in the verge of ending his grand slam title drought when he made it in the final of the Wimbledon last year, but Novak Djokovic denied him in thrilling five-setter match. When Federer steps out on the court on Monday, he will be on his quest to win his eighth Wimbledon title, which will be his 18th grand slam singles title.

Federer once won 40 straight matches at Wimbledon. He was the champion from 2003. He has successfully defended the title until 2007 before his streak was broken by former World No. 1 Rafael Nadal in 2008. He won the most grand slam singles title at Wimbledon. Federer also holds the record of seven consecutive Wimbledon finals (2003-2009). His Wimbledon titles are tied with American tennis legend Pete Sampras, who has also won seven titles at Wimbledon in the Open Era.

Even though he has been deprived of a grand slam trophy in almost three years, the Wimbledon Championships gives him every opportunity to add another grand slam title in his collection. At 33, Federer remains a tough force to beat at the All England Club. He has little left to prove with seven Wimbledon titles.

After his quarterfinal exit to compatriot Stan Wawrinka at the Roland Garros, Federer has made it clear that he has every intention to win the Wimbledon trophy. He said that it is a “big goal” for him.

“I want to win it and I feel like my game is good,” Federer said via UK’s Mirror. “It’s been solid, it’s been positive and I have just got to keep it up.”

Federer goes to SW19 after claiming his eighth Gerry Weber Open title in Halle, Germany. It was his fourth title for the current tennis season. His last title before Halle came at the inaugural Istanbul Open. He also won the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships in February and the Brisbane International in January. He is 34-6 this season, 5-0 on grass.
