'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' to introduce new Mon Calamari subspecies
“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” will be introducing a new subspecies of Mon Calamari. Details of minor and major characters in the film have been released through digital cards. Meanwhile, Director Gareth Edwards revealed the name of the Rebel general who is featured in all the trailers of the film.
[Spoiler alert]
Pictures of the trading cards posted on Entertainment Weekly show new characters as well as characters that the fans are already familiar with. One of the cards is of Mon Calamari, which is the species that Admiral Akbar belongs to. While the old General was “lobster-red,” the new subspecies is reported to be “pale blue.”
Perhaps with a view to increase the presence of female characters in Hollywood, the movie will also introduce more women in smaller roles. One of the digital cards shows a female X-Wing pilot. The card doesn’t reveal any details about who the character is, but he “v” symbols on her uniform reveal that she is an experienced pilot. Each v sigh is equal to 20 confirmed kills in battle. Readers should note that the lead character in “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” is Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones).
Another pilot in one of the digital cards is General Merrick (Ben Daniels). Daniels was seen preparing to film a scene in the movie in the previously released footage of the film. Fans will also recognise Edrio Two Tubes and his brother Benthic. The two characters are mercenary pilots from Yar Togna, which is controlled by the Empire.
Perhaps one of the most important planets being introduced in “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” is Jedha. The planet is Force-scared, and many people across the galaxy travel to this planet as pilgrims to connect with other Force-sensitives and also connect with “the beyond.” Meanwhile, Edwards shot down rumours about Agent Kallus being featured in the film, and revealed the name of the Rebel General, who is seen with Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Reilly) in the trailers, to be Draven, Entertainment Weekly reports.
