'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story': New details of Darth Vader
After much fan speculation and leaked reports, Darth Vader was confirmed to be a part of “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.” New details about the character have now surfaced online. The character plays a very important role during the time period in which the movie is set.
Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy has said that Darth Vader will be seen “sparingly” in the movie, Entertainment Weekly reports. The character is said to play a major role in a “key, strategic moment,” in which he will “loom large.”
Kennedy was initially hesitant to talk about Darth Vader, knowing how important the character is for the film as well as to the large fan base of the movie franchise. The character was introduced in the very first movie of the franchise that was released way back in 1977 and remains popular to this day.
James Earl Jones, who has been the voice behind Vader in the past, will be lending his voice once again to the character in “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.” The report also reveals that a number of “large-framed performers will embody the character behind the mask.”
Talking about the character, Director Gareth Edwards teased that not many people in the galaxy deal with Darth Vader directly. In the Rebellion he is hardly ever mentioned. In the Empire, however, people are aware of his existence.
“There’s definitely an underlying feeling that there is a power – a dark power – available to the Empire and that if you overstep your mark, you will suffer the consequences,” Edwards said.
The main villain in the movie is Director Orson Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn). He is described as an “ambitious Imperial Officer with Machiavellian tendencies,” and he is eager to secure a place for himself by the Emperor’s side.
“There is a lot of palace intrigue going on in the Empire, with people conspiring to move up the ranks and sabotaging each other,” producer John Knoll said.
Krennic will apparently feel threatened by Darth Vader in “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.” Lucasfilm’s Chief of Story Development Kiri Hart said that the Sith Lord is a part of the military structure of the Empire, but is answerable only to the Emperor.
