After the success of their debut performance at Glastonbury last June 29, The Rolling Stones still prove to be mighty as they reigned over the 65,000-strong crowd for an enthralling concert at London's Hyde Park on July 6.

"Anybody out there who was here in 1969?" Mick Jagger asked the audience. "Well hi, it's nice to see you again."

The Rolling Stones opened their two-hour set with "Start Me Up" and "It's Only Rock and Roll."

The excited crowd went into nostalgia as footage of the band's first gig at Hyde Park back in 1969 was played out on the big screens.

The Stones first played at Hyde Park on July 5, 1969 to introduce their new guitarist Mick Taylor and as tribute to their original bandleader Brian Jones.

Two days before the concert, Jones, 27, was found dead in his swimming pool. It was ruled out that he was under the influence of drugs and alcohol when he drowned.

Forty-four years later and The Rolling Stones still honoured Jones when they performed "Miss You" accompanied by images of butterflies on the screens.

The band concluded their set with "You Can Always Get What You Want" and "Satisfaction" with an impressive fireworks display.

The Rolling Stone's appearance is part of Hyde Park's new two-week festival, the Barclaycard British Summertime. Other artists who also performed at the event were Bon Jovi, The Vaccines, Palma Violets and Tribes.

The Stones will be back at Hyde Park for another performance on July 13.
