Ronda Rousey Ponders Life After MMA After ‘Expendables 3’ Stint
Reigning Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey reveals in a recent interview with Fighters Only magazine that she has begun to think about life beyond the Octagon. This sentiment is fuelled by her recent exposure inHollywood. The 27-year-old Olympic medalist added that her experience on set at the recent installment of the "Expendables" franchise has left her wondering about the path of her life beyond the Octagon.
"[The Expendables 3] really made me start thinking about my own life," Rousey relayed to Fighters Only magazine in an exclusive interview. "Like, how am I going to deal with retirement when it gets to be that time? When I can't fight any more, how will that affect me when I see all these young, hungry kids coming up? It makes you think."
Rousey had a 2014 banner year both in the UFC, her budding Hollywood career and in brand modelling. The queen of the Octagon figured in two high-profile title defenses in 2014, which saw her take the Bazzie female fighter of the year honours.
Rousey successfully defended her belt against contenders Sara McMann at UFC 170 and Alexis davis at UFC 175 with the last one just ending in 16 seconds via a powerful punch that sent her opponent to the canvass. She also was handed juicy endorsement deals with David Briton Jeans and Reebok, which now is an official partner for all sports apparel of UFC talents.
At the onset of 2015, Rousey is looking at a full schedule beginning with her next title defence against number 2 contender Cat Zingano at UFC 184 at Staples Centre, Los Angeles this Feb. 28. She is also penning her memoir with her sister in the book slated to come out during the summer entitled "My Fight/Your Fight." Aside from these, she is part of an ensemble cast of blockbuster movie line-up for the summer season, specifically the next "Fast and Furious" film and the mvoie adaptation of the HBO series "Entourage."
Despite her busy schedule, the expert judoka imparts that her experiences have made her ponder her future and on the means on how she can continue her success. Rousey affirms that to stay on top, one has to be motivated and overcome the difficulty of staying driven. The champion lets in on her secret to remaining in shape by revealing that her training regimen includes a daily combination of strength and conditioning, judo, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, swimming, wrestling, striking, boxing, running up sand dunes, grappling.
