World no. 1 Rory McIlroy recently announced that charitable foundation, The Rory Foundation will host the upcoming Irish Open in 2015.

The 2015 Irish Open will be held from May 28 to 31 in Northern Ireland at Royal County Down. Being a native of Northern Ireland, the venue is particularly close to the 25-year-old professional golfer as it witnessed his final amateur appearance in the Walker Cup back in 2007.

As the tournament host, the Northern Irishman will work closely alongside the Tour to develop the commercial and sponsorship activities of the Irish Open 2015. Apart from the aforementioned, the four-time major champion is also committed to enhancing the field by recruiting his fellow players from the US PGA and The European Tours.

The Rory Foundation, which was founded last year, aims to support big and small children's charities around the world will also become the official charity of the Irish Open 2015. The beneficiaries will be chosen by The Rory Foundation in conjunction with The European Tour.

"Since making my debut in 2005, the Irish Open has always been a special tournament to me. I am excited to be partnering with George O'Grady and The European Tour, especially for next year's tournament at Royal County Down," McIlroy said according to BBC.

Back in May, The Rory Foundation committed to donate £1 million every year for a period of four years to the Cancer Fund for Children to support its respite home Daisy Lodge. Apart from the monetary donation, the charity provides emotional and practical support for children and young individuals who are diagnosed with cancer.

The Cancer Fund for Children, which aims to set a global standard in the provision of a therapeutic centre to families nursing a cancer patient, is located just a few miles from Royal County Down, in Newcastle. It provides care providers and patients opportunity to recuperate and relax away from the gruelling hospital treatments and stress of living with cancer.
