When the former world no. 1 Caroline Wozniacki competed against Serena Williams in New York for the US Open, Twitter was flooded with a GIF portraying Wozniacki's ex-fiancé Roy McIlroy and golfer Sergio Garcia who appear to be mocking the Danish tennis superstar.

Adam Sarson merged Wozniacki's gaffe from the US Open with another clip wherein McIlroy and Garcia appearing to make fun of what happened.

McIlroy and Garcia were playing partners at the BMW Championship on the US PGA Tour. While the two professional golfers were waiting to tee off, they seemed to make fun of an incident featuring Wozniacki in the US Open when her hair tangled with her racquet, which led to unsuccessful backhand against Aliaksandra Sasnovich of Belarus.

McIlroy and Wozniacki had a public romance and a New Year's Eve proposal at the Sydney Harbour last year, but the engagement broke off after five months before the two athletes equally public split in May when the professional golfer called of the wedding in a phone call to Wozniacki.

"There is no right way to end a relationship that has been so important to two people," McIlroy said in the statement as he prepares for BMW PGA Championship in England, the European Tour's flagship event.

"The wedding invitations issued at the weekend made me realise that I wasn't ready for all that marriage entails."

Since the break-up, the Northern Irishman professional golfer won four tournaments including the US PGA championship and British Open, while the Danish tennis superstar has enjoyed her best season since 2011.

Previously, Wozniacki had a dig at McIlroy when she took to the social media saying how good it was to wear high heels again, which is an obvious dig at the vertically challenged golfer.
