Rose Byrne back home for Bridesmaid’s premiere
Australian actor Rose Byrne is back in Australia for the "pink carpet" premiere of the smash comedy Bridesmaids.
Bridesmaids has already earned over $100 million in the US box office and many critics are praising the comedy. Byrne who has mainly been doing dramatic roles cherished the chance to show off her comedic chops in the film. The Damages actor said it was exciting to be home to promote one of her films.
"Friends in America have seen it and my brother who lives in America has seen it, but tonight's a big deal because I've got 25 friends and family here," Byrne told AAP from the event in Sydney on Tuesday.
"Gosh I don't know if I've ever done this before, so it's a honour and especially with something like this which is really close to my heart."
Bridesmaids is the story of single and broke Annie (Kristen Wiig) who has to be maid of honor to her best friend Lillian (Maya Rudolph). Annie faces tough competition from another bridesmaid (Byrne) who is much more put together than she is and eager to get the maid of honor spot.
Directed by Paul Feig and produced by Judd Apatow, the film was written by SNL star Kristen Wiig with co-writer Annie Mumolo.
Feig said it was amazing to work with two Aussies, with Rebel Wilson appearing alongside Little Britain's Matt Lucas as Annie's odd sibling roommates.
Fieg also has nothing but praise for Byrne. "And Rose Byrne (is) actually amazing at improv, she's one of the best ... I've ever worked with," he said.
This is Wiig's first visit to Australia and she hasn't been out sightseeing "My hotel has a good view of the Opera House and the bridge," Wiig said. "I've been working all day and I haven't been able to go out at all, so I'll have to come back."
