Rose Leslie Joins Second Season of 'Game of Thrones' in Major Role
The producers of "Game of Thrones," the epic swords-and-dragons TV series, have picked Rose Leslie as a major addition to the cast for its second season, EW.com reports.
The actress, best known for her character as Gwen on "Downton Abbey", will join "Thrones" as Ygritte, a Wildling woman whose life intertwines with Jon Snow's during his explorations beyond the Wall.
Ygritte is an important character in the books on which the series is based. Leslie will play the part of a woman who is "strong-willed, witty, skilled in battle and survival in the wilderness." She is beauty in a steely package, thin, but powerful.
Previous reports said HBO has added other important newcomers for Season 2, including Gwendoline Christie, who will take on the role of Brienne, Maid of Tarth
EW.com confirms "Game of Thrones" will return for 10 episodes in the spring.
