Want to take pictures of the Royals? Then dress-up like them. This is what the directive from Buckingham Palace says. American journalists, who wish to cover Kate Middleton and Prince William's December visit to their country, have been advised to "dress up" in formals. The journalists were reportedly informed through an email to "show respect" to the Royals and the Queen by not dressing up casually in jeans and shabby clothes. The rules not only apply to media persons but also apply to the cameramen and other technicians, reveals the content of the email.

"Journalists wishing to cover Royal engagements, whether in the United Kingdom or abroad, should comply with the dress code on formal occasions out of respect for the guests of The Queen, or any other member of the Royal Family," according to the directive issued to the reporters by Buckingham Palace on royal.gov.uk.

The male journalists are supposed to dress up in "jacket and ties" while the female journalists have been advised to wear "trouser or skirt suit." The order aimed at media persons also adds a strict warning to those who dare to walk in wearing "jeans or trainers." Such media persons and technicians will be "turned away," said the order.

In the UK, the press has to follow special rules set by Buckingham Palace about clicking the Royals. The media persons are not allowed to click the Royals while eating or drinking. At times, they are only allowed to take their photos while they make their speech.

Meanwhile, various publications have reacted hilariously to the Royal directive. Tom Sykes from The Daily Beast acknowledges the fact that the "journalists are an ill-dressed lot" who have now been told to "take a bath and look out some fresh duds" if they want to cover Duchess Catherine and Prince William.

Prince William and Duchess Kate are expected to make their first trip to New York City between Dec. 7 and 9. They both plan to visit the Sep. 11 memorial and also watch the Nets vs. Cavs game at Barclays on Dec. 8. Kate's itinerary also includes a day with New York's First Lady Chirlane McCray. Prince William will also visit Washington D.C. during that time.
