British official says the royal wedding is a 'great moment for Britain'
British Prime Minister David Cameron said that the public should expect a grand wedding for Prince William and Kate Middleton amidst the austerity mode that his country is in these days. The newly engaged royal couple ‘will have all the pomp pageantry that is expected of a royal wedding. The Agence France Presse quoted the Prime Minister as telling CNN that the event “will be a royal wedding that the whole country can celebrate."
"I think it's going to be a great moment for Britain. They are a wonderful couple," Cameron said, according to the AFP. "Above all, it's two young people who love each other very much who are getting married, and we should be happy for them."
The British official explained the expenses for the upcoming nuptials will be provided for by the royal family. When asked by CNN if the taxpayers ‘will pick up the tab’, Cameron admitted that the government may be contributing to the affair but the big part of the expenses the official maintained, will be coming from the royal family.
"Obviously, the government will make its own contribution in terms of policing and security and the rest of it. But the royal family will be in charge of the plans," he said, according to AFP.
The couple announced their engagement in November and they will tie the knot on April 29. Reports have it that following the engagement, there have been recorded upsurge of airplane ticket reservations and purchase plus accommodations in the country. The AFP said that the young couple’s wedding is expected to be viewed in millions around the world, like how the wedding of Princess Diana to Prince Charles have been seen by millions around the world.
"I know it'll be a huge success, not just for the country, and I think the world looking at Britain and how we have this wonderful royal family," Cameron told CNN, according to AFP. "Prince William, who I've spent some time with recently, is a remarkable young man, great balance, poise.
Cameron expressed confidence in the young prince, saying "I think he'll make, I'm sure, a fantastic husband, and one day, he'll make a wonderful king."
Prince William is second-in-line to the throne after his father Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales. He met Kate Middleton at a university in Saint Andrews, Scotland.
