The divorce of singer Katy Perry and English-comedian Russell Brand has been in the making for months already. According to reports, the pop star was not blindsided by the actor and comedian's filing.

Sources that are close to the couple indicated that the two decided with Brand being the one to file the court papers in the divorce because Perry did not want to upset her religious parents.

Katy and Russell knew that their relationship is already on the rocks months ago. However, the couple did not want to bail on the marriage without a concerted effort to work it out. Sadly, both sides ultimately felt that their relationship will eventually come to an end.

Katy and Russell were on board with the divorce weeks ago with reports stating that there was no massive fight that triggered the split but the couple did not want to be in Los Angeles when the divorce papers were filed. So, Brand went back to England and Perry went to Hawaii for Christmas.

Fans of Katy know that her parents are evangelical Christians who raised her to believe that divorce is morally wrong. Out of respect to Katy and her family, Russell was the one to officially file the divorce citing irreconcilable differences. It is still unclear on how or when Katy will legally respond on this matter.

Brand released a statement confirming the split but insisted that the two will always love each other and remain friends. Brand and Perry seem to have had problems ever since they started dating. Fans are definitely hoping that Brand and Perry will remain friends is true. However, reconciliation between the two might be out of the question.
