Russell Brand to star in and produce 'The President Stole My Girlfriend'
Katy Perry's funnyman, "Get Him to the Greek" British actor, Russell Brand, is about to compete onscreen with the leader of the free world in his new film, "The President Stole My Girlfriend."
Brand tells The Hollywood Reporter about the project: "In this movie, the president steals the girlfriend of a sexy hippie--me, obviously." He continued: "It was inspired by the night I naively invited [Warners president] Jeff Robinov for dinner."
Aside from starring in "The President Stole My Girlfriend", Brand would also stand in as a producer.
This will be the first film from Branded Films, a new production company launched by Brand this summer.
"We at the newly founded Branded Films are very excited to announce our new company and the opportunity that it affords us." writes the Brand in in a statement.
With this new venture, seems like the British comedian is very open to any suggestions. "If you have any film ideas, send them to: Beau Bauman, the water tower, Warner Bros, Hollywood, America (care of E. Fudd)."
"We particularly welcome ideas that could feature a long-haired actor with an unintelligible accent (Rasputin / Tarzan / British Jesus). That's all folks," he added.
Branded Films' Nik Linnen would co-produce the film, while Beau Bauman joins the project as its executive producer.
"The President Stole My Girlfriend" is the first major sale Warner Bros. picked up from writer Matt Portenoy, well-known for rewriting the in-development remake of the 1982 comedy film "Porky's". Portenoy also wrote a segment for "Movie 43", a star-studded feature-film produced by Relativity Media set to be released on 2012.
After starring on the flop remake of the classic comedy "Arthur" and voicing the Easter Bunny on "Hop", Russell Brand will be featured on the musical adaptation of "Rock of Ages" with a star-studded ensemble that includes Tom Cruise, Alec Baldwin, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Paul Giamatti, and Julianne Hough among others.
He's also slated to appear in "Lamb of God", the directorial debut of the "Juno" and "United States of Tara" writer, Diablo Cody. Julianne Hough will once again reunite with the actor for this project together with "The Help" actress, Octavia Spencer.
