Co-actors Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes developed a liking to each other during the taping of the "Place beyond Pines". The two instantly clicked and have been dating since 2011. However, reports of their apparent breakup went viral after the actress was repeatedly seen alone in public-with her beau nowhere in sight.

According to the Daily Mail UK, the cause of the breakup was Mendes' love for the limelight. Mendes loved the party, the glamour and the ruckus that Hollywood caused. In the case of heartthrob Gosling, the spotlight seemed a little too intrusive-the self-proclaimed introvert is a total homebody. The two decided to break off ties during the recent holidays, but it is said that the good-looking couple have separated amicably.

Another possible reason for the sad breakup is Mendes' alleged distaste for motherhood; both of them knew that they had to take their relationship to a higher notch, like getting married and having babies, but neither has the guts to actually pursue it.

The contrasting views of the two also added to the friction. In a report, it is said that the 39-year old beauty is averse to having children. In a quote to Daily Mail, Mendes said "I'm certainly not thinking about being a mom...I can't imagine it. I'm too selfish"

Meanwhile, The Notebook actor Ryan Gosling wanted a family of his own. He revealed that he wanted to have babies-something, of course, that was really polarizing to that of Mendes' point of view. After the breakup, Life & Style said Gosling has since then retreated to Canada to have some time for himself. "He felt like he needed to be out of the limelight to refocus." Life & Style added.

Meanwhile, Eva Mendes is busy with her career-she just finished taping " How to Catch A Monster" with Ben Mendelsohn. Gosling is said to have finished filming a movie with co-stars Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara.

In other news, Mendes caused a commotion in an LA airport when she refused to go under a body check by the TSA. Her reason-she was pregnant with her first child. Mendes' camp has since then denied the news of her pregnancy.
