Ryan Gosling is one of the world's male heartthrobs, with his good looks and acting ability. He has a lot of fans all over the world and even has countless fan sites devoted only to him.

But it seems there's more than meets the eye with this actor.

The 32-year-old star showed how much of an animal lover he is by writing a news article to support the rights of pigs in his native Canada.

Ryan together with Farm Sanctuary and Humane Society International/Canada applauds a draft code that was written by Canada's National Farm Animal Care Council to improve the conditions of the breeding pigs in the country. The draft code basically involves stopping the transferring of mother pigs in tiny cages all their lives. These tiny cages are so small that the pigs cannot ever turn around.

Ryan, citing the love of his own pet dog, called for the complete eradication on the use of gestation crates for these pigs.

Ryan also said that he wants this dangerous cycle to end so that the pork industry would not be allowed to confine pigs for weeks at a time. Any animal lover would not want any animal to experience such suffering. This is a very inhumane thing to do even if they are animals.

Many people know that Ryan is inseparable from George, his pet dog. They can be seen around walking or jogging.

Ryan even admits that he takes George wherever he goes. Using his bond with his dog, Ryan argues that many Canadians also have a deep bond with their pet animals. Having said that, these animal lovers should not support an industry that abuses animals in this way.

The actor also campaigned for the rights of cows on dairy farms, particularly about the painful process of "dehorning" where the calf's horns are either gouged or burned.

Ryan is currently on a break from acting as he has been concentrating on his directorial début How to Catch a Monster starring Christina Hendricks and Ryan's real life love Eva Mendes.
