Australian film Red Hill starring Ryan Kwanten, opened with $110,000 in a weekend dominated by comedy Due Date and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

In the movie, Kwanten plays Shane Cooper a young police officer who had relocated in the small country town of Red Hill, with his pregnant wife to start a family. He must survive his first day on the job when convicted murderer Jimmy Conway escapes from prison and reutrn to Red Hill to avenge on its law enforcement officer.

Red Hill has received favorable reviews but the movie is not successful commercially with just a screen average of $1,912 across its 58 screens in Australia since it was released last week. It did not helped that Due Date, from the team behind The Hangover, opened last Thursday, grossing $2.67 million across 294 screens or a screen average of $9083.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 has posted the eighth highest opening weekend in Australian history, netting more than $19 million in the box office. It maintained the number one spot at the box office in its second weekend. The latest installment in the Harry Potter franchise grossed $6.73 million across 610 screens this weekend, giving it the screen average of $11,033, not surprisingly also the highest screen average over the weekend.
