Saint Mary's University is going to conduct a review on measures to be taken to prevent sexual assault or harassment on campus.

The decision has come after a viral video on Instagram showed 1st year students humming a sex chant with some underage girls. The video which was posted on Wednesday has reportedly been taken off the net.

"Y is for your sister, O is for oh so tight, U is for underage, N is for no consent, G is for grab that ass, SMU boys we like them young" - this is how they chanted, according to a report by the Halifax Chronicle Herald.

Colin Dodds said that it was shocking for him and his colleagues to find the kind of video the campus had produced. The University President thought that it was disturbing to know that the students were exposed to such sexually charged content.

Mr Dodds further added that he would create a presidential review council to examine the chant in order to find out measures to be taken by the university to prevent sexual assault and sexual harassment on campus. In addition, the student leaders who were involved in the act would take part in a sensitivity seminar by the end of September. The student association executive is also required to take part in a conference on sexual assault and consent, which is going to be held at St. Francis Xavier University.

Students Nova Scotia, meanwhile, condemned the chant which is suggested to be both sexist and misogynist. The province-wide alliance of student associations said on Thursday that they would never accept the kind of culture on the university campuses. Jonathan Williams, Executive Director of StudentsNS, stated in a press release that the act did not represent the culture the university campuses represented.

It was only last week when the provincial student unions announced that they were planning to do a research on the prevention of alcohol consumption and sexual assault.
