Salud Fines Nabong, Pingris Peanuts; Is the PBA Commissioner Too Soft?
The nasty brawl Wednesday night will cost the players involved a part of their paycheck and will cause them to miss some crucial games as the PBA Governors’ Cup elimination round.
“Fighting will not be condoned by the league. There is absolutely no justification for our players to get involved in fistfights. Strong emphasis is being placed on this policy so much so that those who dare to trigger fights will be dealt with accordingly,” said PBA Commissioner Chito Salud in a statement.

Salud also mentioned the penalties and suspensions for each player. Here’s the summary:
Marc Pingris (San Mig Coffee) - Fined P60,000, Suspended 2 Games
Joe Devance (San Mig Coffee) – Fined P30,000, Suspended 1 Game
Kelly Nabong (Global Port) – Fined P60,000, Suspended 2 Games
Marvin Hayes (Global Port) – Fined P20,000, No Suspension
“With this, it should be clear to everyone that instigators, hotheads and troublemakers have no place in the PBA and will be dealt with severely,” warned the commissioner, who hopes that by penalising the erring players, incident such as this will not happen again.
Devance, who instigated the brawl, quickly reacted to the news via his Twitter account:
i believe in my team. i know they can do it without me n ping!!!! sorry again to the fans of pba and to #sanmigcoffee .

Do you think the players involved got off too easily? Was the 2-game suspension fair? Was it too low? These PBA fans certainly think so:
Lesson learned. Pag may away. Better yet give your opponent a kick/punch rather than choking. Lmao #PBA — methus selah (@msFaLLen_AngeL) September 6, 2013
