James Forcillo who allegedly shot Sammy Yatim to death is now released on bail.

The Toronto officer is charged in one of the rarest murder cases when the young man was shot dead in a streetcar. Mr Forcillo is released on a $510,000 bail.

Mr Forcillo left the courthouse amid vigorous media attention. He had an SUV waiting for him to leave the area. Mr Forcillo was asked to surrender after the allegations against him had required further investigation.

Mr Forcillo was visible unperturbed when he was granted the bail. On the other hand, Mr Forcillo's release met with no opposition at the court by the Crown lawyer.

Peter Brauli was talking to media who were present outside the court. Mr Forcillo's lawyer said that they were looking forward to proceeding further in court regarding the case. It would be early to assume anything in order to pass a judgement on the case.

The most challenging aspect of the case is that many have already been judgmental about Mr Forcillo's actions without knowing everything in detail, he added. Mr Forcillo was apparently in a sombre mood. Mr Brauli stated that his client should be in a state of mind as getting involved in someone's death demands severe gravity. If Mr Brauli is to be believed, Sammy Yatim's death has changed Mr Forcillo's life.

Mr Forcillo was dressed in his navy suit when he appeared at the old City Hall court for a brief period of time. Occasionally, he had to lean over the bench to listen to his team of legal defence. One of them whispered in his ear, while his wife remained silent to all the media questions.

It was a pretty short-lived courtroom session as it got over as soon as it started. The closed judicial pre-trial was scheduled September 30. The reporters were asked to leave the courtroom soon after.

Mike McCormack informed the media that Mr Forcillo was obviously distressed and upset about the entire incident. The Toronto Police Association president added that they would approach the proceedings in a strictly professional manner.
