Samsung Adds Galaxy Note 8.0 to its Expanding Tablet Stable
The fourth Galaxy Note is on the way. It will be known as Galaxy Note 8.0 and Samsung intends to debut the new small tablet via the Mobile World Congress scheduled for Barcelona staging in late February.
As the name suggests, the new Note sibling will have an 8-inch screen size, according to reports by SamMobile, and sport resolution of 1280 x 800 on a Super Clear LCD TFT display. The slate weighs at around 330 grams with the following dimension: 211.3 x 136.3 x 7.95 mm.
SamMobile did not specify the processing power that Samsung will use with the Note 8.0, which is expected for direct rivalry with Apple's iPad Mini, Amazon's Kindle Fire HD and Google's Nexus 7. All three are considered as the top-tier players in the small tablet category that started carving a lucrative market segment last year.
Samsung, actually, is already in active competition via its Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 and Galaxy Tab 7.7 but the enhanced specs that consumers will enjoy from the Note 8.0 will give more leg for the company gain the necessary inroads to be a top contender.
Samsung will retail the tablet on two versions, Wi-Fi only and Wi-Fi+3G, indicating that the device will come out of box without LTE capability.
This latest Android tablet will be powered by JellyBean 4.2, SamMobile said, adding that it will have a decent 5MP rear camera shooter to partner with a 1.3MP front camera for more than satisfying video chat and conferencing.
The same report pointed to generous RAM space of 2GB and up to 32GB of built-in storage plus a microSD slot if users would require more room.
Ease of navigation is also ensured with the inclusion of the S-Pen stylus while Samsung assured that more productive and fun time will be drawn from the Note 8.0 thanks its 4600mAh battery pack.
As mentioned above, the Galaxy Note 8.0 will be unveiled at the Barcelona MWC but its actual commercial release remains a mystery.
It is likely, according to Business Insider, that the new Samsung tablet will ship out a little earlier than the overly-waited Galaxy S4, adding that if indeed the slate is meant to take on the iPad Mini, primarily, then its price range will hover between $US250 to $US350 to get sufficient attention.
Apart from the price concern, the Note 8.0 is expected to improve on the wares previously showcased with the Galaxy Note 10.1, according to The Verge. These two factors will determine whether the tablet can convince consumers that it is worth buying, the tech site added.
