Of course the name rings a bell. This new handset is a bump up of the Galaxy S3 predecessor, the Galaxy S2 relased in 2011, which means the specs, hardware and software, were given the upgrade treatment.

Samsung is upbeat that Galaxy fans will not be disappointed by its new Android gadget offering. From its sibling's Gingerbread, the S2 Plus will show some muscle via the JellyBean 4.1.2.

And the device is packed indeed with decent power. The regenerated S2 Plus is expected to snap all its tasks in huff, thanks to the dual-core 1.2GHz processor that will collaborate with a 1GB of RAM. Unless you overworked this phone, you'll get yourself a fine machine by these decent specs.

Screen size for the S2 Plus, according to Samsung, is bigger than that of Apple's iPhone 5 at 4.3 inches, which will have a WVGA Super AMOLED display technology, a Samsung mainstay, to boot with.

Viewing of images and clips on the S2 Plus is a sure delight but so is the creation of these files, Samsung stressed. This Android phone is armed with an 8MP rear-camera shooter, to be aided by a LED flash plus a 2MP front camera for video calls.

The S2 Plus is all geared to capture moment and objects in fast-pace, made possible by the handset's main cam that is equipped with zero-lag shutter speed.

But the built-in storage capacity is not so generous for the second coming of the Galaxy S2, which Samsung shrunk to 8GB for the new release. To compensate for the downgrade, the memory expansion slot is spiked up to take in up to 64GB of memory card.

No LTE chip is included with this phone, so the S2 Plus is purely 3G but speedy enough on 21Mbps HSPA+. Other connectivity options are Bluetooth 3.0 and dual-band Wi-Fi for a more stable access to local wireless network.

On top of the JellyBean, the Galaxy S2 Plus will deploy with Samsung-flavoured functions and features such as Popup Video, S Voice, Voice Unlock, Direct Call, Smart Stay and Smart alert - all designed for an enhanced user experience.

Samsung held back on price and launch details for now but the S2 Plus is expected to rollout a bit earlier than the overly-anticipated Galaxy S4, likely to hit the market with the recently announced Galaxy Grand. It remains unclear it this is market-specified release or the whole world will have a re-taste of the Galaxy S2.
