Visitors try out a Samsung Electronics' Galaxy Gear smartwatch at its exhibition hall at a railway station in Seoul November 25, 2013. Samsung Electronics Co is expected to spend around $14 billion - more than Iceland's GDP - on advertising and marketing this year, but it doesn't always get value for money. The outlay buys the South Korean technology giant publicity in TV and cinema ads, on billboards, and at sports and arts events from the Sydney Opera House to New York's Radio City Music Hall. Rumours are going around the tech industry that Samsung will release a Galaxy Band Fitness Tracker to debut at the 2014 Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Spain. The 2014 MWC will be held at the Fira Gran Via from Feb. 24 -27, 2014.

According to DDaily, a Web site from South Korea, the Samsung Galaxy Band (tentative name) will have several features including route guidance, a pedometer and smart tracking sensors for pressure, humidity and motion. Plus, it might have voice controls too.

Like the Samsung Galaxy Gear Smartwatch and the Samsung Galaxy S4 phone, the Samsung Galaxy Band will be able to sync with other Galaxy gadgets via Bluetooth technology.

Adding fuel to the fire is a U.S. patent application from Samsung Display Co., Ltd for a device with a flexible terminal system. It was filed on Oct. 10, 2012 and published just last Dec. 19, 2013.

"Including a first terminal and a second terminal that are configured to be coupled to each other over a local area wireless communication network, wherein the second terminal senses the amount of transformation of the second terminal and displays different information according to the amount of transformation of the second terminal," read Samsung's U.S. patent application for the device.

However, a representative from Samsung reportedly told PCMag that the company "does not have anything new to share at this time."

But, if the rumoured Samsung Galaxy Band Fitness Tracker will end up being unveiled at the 2014 MWC in Barcelona, Spain, then this will be an additional product that aids in tracking a person's health progress. It will be in line with Samsung's S Health app, which was released in 2012 and the S Band pedometer bracelet which costs $100 and tracks the daily activity of its user. Guess we'll just have to wait for the MWC in February 2014 to find out if this rumour about the Samsung Galaxy Band Fitness Tracker turns out to be the real deal.
