The Samsung Gear will debut at a price tag of $299, a bit less than an iPhone.
As tablets and smartphoness become more mundane, competitors in the mobile device industry are looking for ways to draw in customer through variations on the phone, like a watch or even a goggle from google.
Samsung makes its debut into the smartwatcch category with Samsung Galaxy Gear, a watch that can email, take and receive calls, send text messages, download apps and take photos and videos as well.
But analysts point to a couple of minor glitches that may be need to be improved. Known as a companion device, the Gear pairs with the samsung's latest working watch. This is not too bad since its rivals function the same way.
Another catch to the Galaxy Gear that is more prominent on the Gear is that it may by used only with the Galaxy Note 3 and the Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition. Both these phones were unveiled at the event along with a mention of an October upgrade that will allow the Galaxy W3, Galaxy 4 to also join the line of products that can since to the Samsung's smartwatch.
So far, Telstra is the sole Australian carrier of the Samsung Galaxy Gear with the Galaxy Not 3. However, the Galaxy Note 3 will be sold by Vodafone, Optus, and Virgin Mobile.
The Australian noted that the Gear costs twice the price of the Sony SmartWatch or the Pebble, probably because it has a camera and about six dozen apps. The apps on the wearable device include Twitter, a sporting app RunKeeper, and other unique apps. The 1.9 megapexil camera housed on the Samsung Gear is not a great camera compared to the phone.
Apart from a couple of overlooked conveniences, the Gear is a good start in our evolution of wearable items and gives us a gauge at to where things can go in terms of wearable devices and accessories.
