Samsung Galaxy Note 3 'Active' Version on the Horizon? [Rumours and Speculation]
A more rugged version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 may be in the works. The flagship smartphone of the company was launched with much fanfare and the company may soon launch an "Active" version of the device.
The Galaxy S4 Active has seen a fairly good response from the market, according to analysts and it is only a matter of time before the company will launch a similar version on the Samsung Galaxy Note 3.
Analysts say that the primary objective of an Active version is to make the phone more rugged and add features like dust and water resistance to the phone. The new improvements could also allow the phone to be submerged in shallow waters for some time.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Active may allow users to take it under water, similar to the Galaxy S4 Active and deeper than 3 feet of water. The Aqua mode is also expected to feature on the device allowing users to take pictures under water.
Analysts expect the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Active to come with a more bulky and heavier casing compared to the regular Note 3, to make the rugged features on the phone available. The new phone could also be slightly heavier comparatively.
Analysts say that the main competitor for the device could be the Sony Xperia Z1, the phone has been promoted extensively for its ability to be submerged in 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes.
The main features of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 are expected to be available on the Active version also. The new Air Command feature for example allows users to access the Action memo and scrapbook et al through a fan like shortcut.
Users have found the Action memo particularly useful where the user can write a phone number on the Action memo screen using the S Pen and directly dial the number; the phone recognises the handwritten numbers.
The specs on the Active variant are expected to be similar to the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. The phone comes with quad core processor and an impressive 3 GB RAM.
The Active variant may sport a lesser 8 MP camera compared to the 13 MP camera featured on the Note 3.
