Samsung Galaxy S2 Ends with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean Firmware but Owners Should Wait till December 2013?
Owners of the Samsung Galaxy S2 may end up disappointed with their device due to the expected "end of life cycle" on the upcoming official Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean updat,e according to an insider from Samsung.
Final Official Firmware Update
Samsung Galaxy S2 owners can only expect Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean firmware to be its latest update - no Android 4.3 or Android 5.0. According to SamMobile, Galaxy S2 is one of many Galaxy devices included in an "end of life cycle" with Android 4.2.2. Once released, S2 owners will enjoy Daydream feature, Quick Settings, Actionable Notifications, Lock screen widgets and all-new TouchWiz interface.
Delayed Update for Galaxy S2
Samsung's commitment to release update for every Galaxy device is impressive, however, the Galaxy S2 is not the previous flagship phone of the company. It is known that Samsung always updates devices based on the latest release date which means Galaxy S3 would be the first in line. Samsung is under speculated pressure with Android 4.2.2 firmware release:
1. Galaxy S4 TouchWiz UI porting problems to Galaxy S3 in relation with memory.
2. Galaxy S4 disappointing sales even with 20 million shipped unit.
3. Upcoming Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie release from Google.
It is expected that Samsung will need Galaxy S4 to be updated with Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie to boost sales figure then followed by the Galaxy S3 firmware update before going back to Galaxy S2.
Possible Release Date
Android 4.3 is now being tested on Galaxy S4 and soon will be pushed officially with TouchWiz Ui. The Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie is expected to launch on October 2013 then later will arrive on Galaxy S4 by late October or November 2013.
If successful, owners of both Galaxy S2 and Galaxy S3 may get their update as soon as October or November 2013, but if the situation gets worse, Galaxy S2 can expect its final update by December 2013 or January 2014.
