Samsung Galaxy S2 and Note I Goes 'Bye Bye' to Official Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean Update; Galaxy S2 Plus Confirmed to Get Android 4.2.2
Owners of the Samsung Galaxy S2 may have a slim chance to receive an official Android 4.2.2 update from the maker due to problems related with the latest TouchWiz UI. The 2-year-old technology found in Galaxy S2 seemed unable to comply with the latest TouchWiz requirements.
Samsung Galaxy S2 Says Goodbye to Android 4.2.2
According to connect.de, the Galaxy S2 status on getting an Android 4.2.2 update from Samsung gets worse than ever. The predecessor of Galaxy S3 suffered from issues of the latest TouchWiz UI integration from Android 4.2.2 firmware design of Samsung.
An insider of the Web site hinted the scrapping of Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean originally planned on Galaxy S2, and this should mean that it will remain on running Android 4.1.2. Unlike its successor, Galaxy S3 was supposed to receive Android 4.2.2; then, Samsung deliberately dissolved the plan to welcome a newer Android version - 4.3 Jelly Bean.
Even though Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean isn't a huge update, owners of Galaxy S2 will be disappointed, since they will never be able to see their phones having Lock screen Widgets, Actionable Notifications and the cute Daydream effect.
Samsung Galaxy S2 Plus Owners
For the other variant, Samsung Galaxy S2 Plus, SamMobile confirmed that the smartphone will still receive an Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update unlike the original version. But, the Web site has no information yet what features are included or excluded.
Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean firmware designed for Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2, which leaked recently, included several new Android features such as Lock screen Widget and Daydream plus new additions found in Galaxy S4 such as exclusive apps and updates S Voice feature.
Samsung Galaxy Note I Goes Down the Drain, Too?
Both Samsung Galaxy S2 and Note I have similar hardware, leading to the possibility of "no Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update" for the original Note as well. Due to the old hardware specifications, Samsung may also have problems with TouchWiz UI integration to the first Galaxy Note.
As of now, Samsung hasn't finalised the deal with Android 4.2.2 for Galaxy S2 and Galaxy Note, but hopefully, the company can create something to emulate, if not the UI, at least exclusive apps from Galaxy S4.
